Student Late Arrivals
A reminder that our instructional day begins at 8:50 am. Students arriving afterwards are considered late. Staff supervision begins at 8:35 am so students are able to arrive at school anytime afterwards.
Daily Covid Screening and Verification
A reminder that the daily Covid screening is required to be completed for all students prior to attending school each day. Teachers are continuing to verify this is completed each morning. We appreciate your diligence in ensuring students are not coming to school feeling ill.
Rapid Antigen Tests
All students sent home during the school day when not feeling well are provided with 2 additional Rapid Antigen Tests. For now, if your child has been previously ill and you no longer have any Rapid Antigen Tests available at home, you may contact the school at pweps@hdsb.ca to request 2 additional tests sent home with your child. Please provide the name and class your child is in when emailing and the office will arrange for them to be sent home with your child within 2 school days.
FDK and other Registrations for 2022-23 School Year
If you have not registered your child yet for JK/SK, please do so as soon as possible. We are in the process of confirming all our classes for next school year. Having all our new JK/SK registered for next school year helps ensure we have the necessary classes available and ready. All registrations are completed electronically. Completed registration forms and documents should be emailed to the school office: pweps@hdsb.ca
The registration process can be located here: https://www.hdsb.ca/parents/Pages/Register-My-Child-for-School.aspx
Out of Area Transfers (Optional Attendance)
Please note that parent(s)/guardian(s) can seek attendance at an alternate school. Deadline for out of area transfer applications for the 2022-23 school year is February 28th. Be aware that Pilgrim Wood is closed to out of area transfer applications. More details about the process can be found here: https://www.hdsb.ca/schools/Pages/Transfer-Schools-within-the-HDSB.aspx
YMCA Before and After School Care Registration for 2022-23

Grade 8 Graduation
We are beginning to plan for an end of the school year celebration for our Grade 8 students. While it is still unknown at this time if we will be able to conduct an in-person graduation ceremony, please save Monday, June 27th as a possible ceremony date should we be permitted to host an in-person graduation. Due to the ongoing nature of in-person learning this year, we have decided not to present any Grade 8 awards again this school year.
On Wednesday, March 2, Grade 8 students will be having their Graduation photos taken.
Student Cutlery and Water bottles
We’d ask that parent(s)/guardian(s) please remember to send any necessary forks or spoons needed for student lunches/snacks. We did install 2 additional water bottle refiller stations in the school in January (on the second floor and for primary classes on the first floor). Students are reminded to bring their own bottles for refilling to have water at school as needed.
School Council Update
Your parent/guardian School Council continues to meet virtually once per month with the school administration (usually the first school day Monday of the month). The meeting is open for non-members if wishing to attend.
This year, the School Council authorized the sum of $7890 to support:
$2250 black top games painting
$1400 outdoor students play equipment
$3100 for 10 chrome books
$1140 new planter boxes by Abbey Park for our outdoor learning space
The School Council is looking to restart fundraising to support further needs at Pilgrim Wood PS. Stay tuned for more information soon about our fundraising initiatives.

In The Works
We’re in the process of looking at the use of lockers and cubbies for students, a new Spirit Wear order for students to purchase school related shirts/hoodies, and for possible Pizza lunch days to return. Look for more information in the coming weeks as we finalize the planning involved.
